Nigeria takes action over Kaita death threats PDF Print E-mail

584-kaita-securityNigeria is taking action over death threats to midfielder Sani Kaita, who was sent off in the Super Eagles 1-2 loss to Greece in a World cup Group B game last Thursday.

Kaita told the German news agency that he had received death threats via email, and team Media Officer Idah Peterside said the NFF had written an official letter to FIFA and the Nigerian government.

"He has received over 1000 threats to his email, so we are not taking this lightly.

"We have spoken to the Nigerian Minister of Sports to inform him about the situation, and we are also writing to FIFA to notify them," Peterside said.

He added that the minister and other Nigerian officials were disappointed at the situation.

"This is just a young man on national service who is trying to do his best. For people to threaten his life is shocking and disappointing.

"He is shaken, but is getting support from his team mates and team officials."

Left to me kaita is not wrong, its part of learning. Afterall, is it as painful as loosing a semi final (which brazil lost in USA 1994, when thier player had to looze his penalty turn?). Nigerians should learn to take heart. Its part of the game.

However the threat to his life is the part that is ugly. He should be encouraged. Those that are threatening him, have they not at one time or another done something that is injurious to this nation.

Charity they say begins at home. What Kaita displayed on the field of play in our match with Greece is just the Nigerian in him. Indiscipline - that is what Nigeria means.
